Babymetal clarify Yuimetal’s absence from current tour following rumours she had quit

Speculation began after she did not appear on the first date of their world tour

Babymetal have clarified Yuimetal’s absence from the band after she did not appear during the first show of their current world tour.

The trio, completed by Su-metal and Moametal, formed in 2010. They have released two studio albums since then, including 2016’s ‘Metal Resistance’.

Yuimetal, whose real name is Yui Mizuno, reportedly did not appear at the Japanese kawaii metal band’s first show on their world tour in Kansas City earlier this week. No official reason was given for her absence at the time, causing fans to speculate about her future with the group.

According to reports, her two bandmates were joined by two extra dancers at their performance at the Uptown Theater. Now, the band’s management company have told Alternative Press that she “remains a member of the band, but is not on this current US tour.” They added: “There is a new narrative for the future of the band which is currently evolving. The storyline has changed. This was the basis of the Metal Resistance Episode 7: The Revelation video.”

Yuimetal previously missed two of Babymetal’s shows in Japan last December. At the time, management said she was ill.

Earlier this week, Babymetal released a surprise single called ‘Distortion’. The band also shared some new information about the next chapter of the band, following on from last month’s “revelation” that “we have only experienced the light side” and that “an unknown dark side, a legend of seven metal spirits, the chosen seven exists”.

In a press release, they wrote: “The new song ‘Distortion’ explores the unrevealed dark side, the apocrypha, the legend of seven metal spirits in which power is distorted through time and space.”
